when i got into this "business" of doing music, i researched artists i respected who were running their own labels etc, and i realize now that over the years i've become consumed with making sure i take care of "business". it's been 8 years (holy crap) - 6 years of really trying to do my own project - and i'm realizing that it has not gotten me into a situation where i'm doing more business than art, and just running myself in circles. it's running my musical mind off the map.
so i'm officially dropping the ball. (or at least, trying to.) i'm going to focus on the music and leave the business stuff for my random hours where i've played my fingers to death and am sucked clean of musical ideas...
already i've had a whack of new song ideas.
it scares me to do this because i feel like i'll just become one of those flakey musicians that i've looked at in the past and thought "they couldn't run their own label". but i can't continue running myself into the ground and putting my creative brain in a box.
this may mean that my website may get slightly out of date from time to time, or that i don't answer emails exactly every 24 hours. (not that i was like clockwork anyways)... but i'd prefer to live my life for my music than for my website, or for my press kit, or for my contacts database.
