currently listening to Elvis Costello/Lucinda Williams "Wild Horses". This reminds me of Blue Rodeo... the character of the piano and slide guitar. there's something in it that warms the soul. i've been listening to the Who, The Ramones, a touch of Julie Doiron, and looking up all sorts of stuff i used to listen to in the 80's. Tiffany (i totally wanted a jean jacket like that), Michael Jackson (big crush on him during the Thriller years)... and Whitney Houston "I wanna dance with somebody" was my first vinyl record.

what ever happened to Roxette? I rented Pretty Woman a couple months ago and rediscovered "It Must Have Been Love"... and what's that other song in that movie... ah yes... The King of Wishful Thinking by Go West. A band i don't know much about... have no clue what else they did...

...if i don't listen to the talk of the town then maybe i can fool myself...

ah where to start... last night was one of the not-so-favorite gigs... everything from stomach flu and flying in from Halifax a mere 2 hours before we needed to be at the club, to many technical problems (including a mid-set computer crash), not to mention the confused set times when we arrived, and a rude other band who talked loudly through our set...

so, to everyone that came to the show and supported us, thank you. we will do better for you next time, we promise.

cold and clammy in nova scotia! there are lots of bunnies around. my head is being scratched. 5 cups of coffee. tequila. sleepy eyes.

current best book: oryx and crake. (atwood) time to go back and catch up on some that i haven't read yet. it's hit and miss.

looking forward to heading home, but maybe today we'll see a jellyfish. only seen them in books. (or on tv i guess). not the kind of thing you really keep track of.

keep checking the messageboard for a sign of life but so far people must be pretty timid or something. *sigh

watched Monster tonite... very disturbing movie - very well done. i surfed through the bonus materials (don't you love dvds) and was really glad that they had a long interview with the composer of the score... it drew my attention to the fact that there was this amazing soundtrack to the whole movie and i hadn't realized it while watching. it was that good...

trying to become more of a musicologist and listening to stuff i don't normally seek out. one of the biggest problems in our house is that we don't have a central cd spot... there are stacks and shelves and boxes and many of those cd binder thingys... so i didn't really have a clue how many cds we had until i did the math yesterday. at my estimation it's somewhere around 800. that's a loose figure... anyhow, my dreams of going to ikea and getting some of those cd organizers swiftly evaporated when i realized how many of them i'd need. darn, and i was actually getting all excited at the thought of organizing and alphabetizing them all.... i love stuff like that. yes, our house will be one of "THOSE" houses... *evil laugh*

been having a very healthy creative week in general. doing some writing every day, spending hours tweaking mixes. not saying how far along i am, don't want to jinx it. done that too many times already. farming things out for 2nd opinions. learning the crazy-beautiful guitar solo part in one of my favorite songs. drooling over a perfect-sounding refurbished J-45 acoustic in the store down the street. damn!!! wish i had the money, i'd snatch it up in an instant and be eternally happy.

tired!!!!! a whirlwind trip to NYC, we drove in just as the 4th of july fireworks were exploding over the city... what a view of manhattan. tried out the new fast ferry between Toronto and Rochester... someone has gotta learn how to use the air conditioning *properly* on that thing (instead of almost giving us all pneumonia).

got a couple new things to listen to: modest mouse, jonny greenwood bodysong soundtrack (found this hard to get item in times square), neko case (i've been in love with the blacklisted cover art for a long time but never got a chance to check it out), fiest (really neat). also, loving roy hargrove RH factor... but i've had that for awhile.

exploring my older songs for this weekend's show... getting some email requests for it... (loving that!)... being reminded of a hell of a lot of history.

everyone keeps asking when the record will be done. it's hard to explain. feels like a final draft now... but it doesn't feel "done". i can't help but feel a little crazy that it's taking so long... i feel like a broken record when anyone asks about it. but my horoscope today (i get it everyday through email) says: "Finesse and refinement are subtle sciences. A small handful of people recognize how good you are at what you do. Your moment will come, slowly but surely. Amuse yourself quietly until then."

so that's what i'll do.
