thinking about a lot of things these days. i'm really into a lot of UK bands. the guys really want to play one of our new songs on tuesday... so how can i say no? lol... i want to as well though.... i actually left the gig last tuesday with the new song in my head, wishing we'd played it. but it wasn't ready then. now i think we can go for it.

thinking of trying tennis. as usual, i hate taking any sort of sports instruction, so i figure i'll just fake it... after all, i know how to play ping pong... same concept, right??

very fun show last night!! it was really thanks to the audience.... no slight meant to the other week's audiences, but last night's was the best yet this month. :) It's been really fun playing every week like this... it's really given the band a chance to tighten up and try some stuff out. Dave McMillan did a really great job last night filling in for Marc... it's nice to know we have someone like that we can rely on if Marc gets the chance to do something big like he's doing this week (see previous journal entries).

playing out again has also been inspiring me to do some more writing and there are songs coming out weekly, sometimes daily. i've also been writing with Marc, which is new, and turning out to be really fun. when i'm in a writing period, i end up getting a bit "haunted" by the new songs... they follow me around my day and even when i wake up in the middle of the night, there they are... in fact last night at 4:30 in the morning i was flipping channels trying to distract myself from one so i could fall asleep - every time i lay down in the quiet room it was just going round and round and round in my head. a bunch of infomercials later i realized was welcoming in the "new day" of broadcasting with the national anthem on a few channels and i decided it was enough... somehow i fell alseep.

i'm listening to the boardmix of last night's show as i write this... and bobbing my head. :)

looking forward to playing the show tonight... we have Dave McMillan joining us on bass tonight... he's filling in for Marc, who is in L.A. writing and recording with the Philosopher Kings! Dave sounds awesome and we had a great rehearsal today in preparation for the gig. only a few hours left!

not going to think about the technical problems anymore.

we had a few sound problems last night at our show... but i listened to the boardmix this morning and to my relief it actually was a bit better than i had thought it was while playing. oh to be playing situations that are more under our control. in a small room like that, it's really hard to hear things properly on stage. i end up hearing more what's coming out of the front speakers than being able to rely on my own monitors. (which i'd have to have cranked in order to hear them over the mains, but then they'd be way too loud for my own ears.

hmm... my personal highlight of the night? possibly during the encore when a wine glass fell off a speaker and crashed (in the big outro of "wish on a star". you could hear it on the boardmix! nice little percussive touch.

anyways, gotta let those tech things go. cuz looking past them, i feel like the trio is sounding the best it ever has. marc and ben are really a great team. i have a lot of fun playing with them (and hanging with them too). it all matters.

well the first show of the month residency went well last night. thank you everyone who came to the show! :) we went into it feeling excited and a little nervous: we had some new tricks up our sleeves, but in doing so, had many new opportunities for something to go wrong. :) technology, eh? anyways, it all went rather smoothly in my opinion. there was only one "situation" and that involved a glockenspiel - he realized once we started "slide" that it wasn't set up at the right height for marc to play it at while still playing bass! lesson learned. now we're ready to rock out in a very relaxed state all month long.

i also forgot to tell everyone on my mailing list in other cities that the venue is webcasting every one of our performances this month... you can hear it in streaming audio online, live, as in, as we play it, on the c'est what website - www.cestwhat.com. bad karen for forgetting. will mend my ways this week and get an email out about it. for sure.

ps: should i name the glockenspiel?
